The RSL License

The Radio Authority, the official body responsible for the regulation of radio in the UK, grants 'Restricted Service Licenses' to operate 'trial broadcasts' to try and prove the need for new styles of radio services. These trials are restricted to two four week periods of broadcasting per year.

In other words Storm FM is not allowed to broadcast for any longer than four weeks. During these periods we can develop our innovative format and try and prove there is a real need for Storm FM on a full time basis. Only by first using these Restricted Service Licenses can we convince the Radio Authority to make a full eight year broadcasting license available for student broadcasting in Greater Manchester.
